The Celtic cross marks the grave of William Auden, Vicar of Church Broughton 1864-1904. He was succeded as Vicar by nephew Alfred Auden (Vicar 1904-1933) whose nephew was the famous poet W.H.Auden. A member of the Auden family still has the right to a say in the appointment of Vicars of the parish.
