The former parish church of St Chad Barton Blount in the tiny settlement of Barton Blount. The village which it served has all but disappeared and it is now the private chapel belonging to Barton Hall. The village was formerly the seat of the Blount family - one of whom, Sir Walter was the Blunt of Shakespeare's Henry IV. He was the King's standard-bearer at the battle of Shrewsbury where he was killed. A later Sir Walter Blount was Lord High Treasurer in 1464 and became Lord Mountjoy. In the year of the Spanish Armada he built ships at his own expense and sent them against the Spaniards.
