Hidden in the distance amongst the trees is Radbourne Hall. The historic seat of the Chandos-Pole family (as it still is). The present hall was built 1739-1743 by William Smith the Younger of Warwick. The architect/builder must have been a particularly honest man - he finished the house for 500 pounds less than the original estimate - and so he returned the surplus to the family! The parkland around the hall - part of which is in the picture was in medieval times a deer park. However, in the 1790s Erasmus Darwin and renowned landscape designer William Emes (from the nearby village of Church Broughton) laid out the park. Whilst the gardens have changed, the landscaping of the park has never changed. Work of restoration of the park including tree planting has recently started.
